"Let The Children Come To Me"

The Sunday School was first organized by Janice Joseph and Kavita Oommen in 1999.  Although it was small, the two teachers worked hard to establish a framework for the future of the Sunday School. Due to Kavita Oommen's academic endeavor, she moved to Houston, Texas in 2000.  Due to the growth in the number of families, St. Mary's Church felt that it was necessary to increase the number of classes, which required more teachers and a person in charge.   The church appointed Binny Thomas as the Sunday School Headmaster, and Janice Joseph (second grade), Sosamma Yohannan (first grade), and Anita Thomas (kindergarten) as the teachers.  In the end of 2001, it was necessary that the church added more teachers to the Sunday School staff, due to the significant growth in students.  Reji Korah, Manju Korah, Anita Thomas(Binoy), and Manju Roji Kurian volunteered to teach the extra classes that were necessary.  Due to certain circumstances, both Janice Joseph and Sosamma Yohannan could not continue into 2002 as teachers. The children meet every Sunday morning from 9:30-10:30.  The program is established to instill in the children  morals and values to carry with them.  The Sunday School's goals are to build a strong and lasting foundation for the children emotionally, spiritually, and physically, and to provide a supportive, enthusiastic, and encouraging atmosphere.  The Sunday School promotes teaching valuable lessons that children can utilize, and it slowly prepares them for obstacles and experiences they will encounter in the real world. The church strongly believes that the continuous support by the parents, dedication by the teachers, and the interest communicated by the children will allow the program to be a success and to grow towards excellence.
