In December 2000, St. Mary's Syrian Orthodox Church felt it was necessary to begin a church choir. During discussions, the church unanimously selected a very talented youth member, Joel Joseph, to organize the choir. Auditions were held by Joel during the month of January 2001. Joel informed the participants that he would select five individuals to begin the choir. The essential requirements Joel felt were necessary were a voice test, keeping with the tempo, key, and pitch of the music. After two weeks, Joel made his final decision. The members of St. Mary's Celestial Virtues are Oommen Varughese, Jossi John, Anita Thomas, Janice Joseph, and Jill Joseph. In the preliminary stages, Joel held practices every week. Following a month and a half of practices, the choir learned the service songs. In May of 2002, Janice informed the choir that she could no longer continue in the choir due to her moving from Atlanta. In order to replace Janice's position, Joel held auditions and selected Molikutty Joseph and Manju Kurian as the new female vocalists. Celestial Virtues strives to improve the quality and sounds of their music, and they hope and pray their melodies will touch the lives of those who attend the services.
